Escritum seamlessly integrates with Zotero, allowing you to access your citation library directly from the editor. This integration uses Better BibTeX's JSON-RPC server to provide real-time access to your Zotero references.
Step 1: Install Zotero
Download and install Zotero from the official website:
Better BibTeX's JSON-RPC server is enabled by default when the plugin is installed. No manual configuration is needed - it runs on port 23119 automatically.
macOS Users:
Go to Zotero → Preferences → Better BibTeX
You may see an "Export" tab - JSON-RPC is enabled by default
If you see "Enable export via HTTP" or similar, ensure it's checked (it should be by default)
The JSON-RPC server runs automatically - no toggle needed
Note: If you don't see Better BibTeX in preferences, make sure the plugin is properly installed and Zotero has been restarted.
Step 4: Keep Zotero Running
Important: Zotero must be running for Escritum to access your library. Make sure Zotero is launched before using citation features in Escritum.
✓ Ready to use: Once Zotero and Better BibTeX are installed, Escritum will automatically detect and connect to your Zotero library. You can start inserting citations directly from your library.
